Goa Police successfully coordinated the rescue operation of an 11-year-old child who was stranded in Bishnupur district of Manipur.
The child had been staying with his paternal grandparents while his parents were in Goa, amidst ongoing clashes in the area.
The Chief Minister’s Office in Goa entrusted the responsibility to the Goa Police to collaborate with Manipur Police and ensure the safe transportation of the child to the airport.
Director General of Goa Police Jaspal Singh said that since the local (Manipur) police was engaged in the handling of large scale violence, CRPF was simultaneously contacted to assist them in the safe passage of the child.
“Since the situation was volatile the force was worried about the security of the child. At one point of time it appeared difficult as going in the interior areas was fraught with risk and it was decided to let the kid stay put where he was. However, considering the anxiety of his parents, officers at the seniormost level were contacted, and the boy was picked up from the village and handed over to another Goan resident who was also stuck in Manipur. Both of them safely boarded the flight from Imphal airport for Delhi,” Singh said as he revealed the sequence of the rescue operation.
