MARGAO
The Carmona village panchayat has strongly urged the Chinchinim PHC to arrange a Covishield vaccination camp dedicated purely for 18 to 44 year olds in the village as per public announcement by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Statehood Day.
Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said a well-planned vaccination camp helps to reach out to maximum people through the panchayats, saying “as we have the capacity and initiative to create maximum awareness and arrange door-to-door convincing of the people”.
He said the last three vaccination camps for 45-plus have been failures as they were conducted at short notice without involving the local bodies.
“When panchayats are independently given the charge of arranging the vaccine camps we can reach out to max people as some people are still hesitating due to negative propaganda in social media,” he said.
The sarpanch said the government should stop convincing the 45-plus category and focus on vaccination of all, irrespective of age or profession.
“The CM while passing the blame on the panchayats has not gone into the facts of whether the panchayats were roped in for the vaccination programme to convince the 45-plus category. Nobody in the village can convince the people to vaccinate other than their panch member,” he said.
