Citizens lowering guard again

PANAJI

The dangerous relaxation trend is observed again and people and administration are losing their guard against Covid. The people have started moving out in vehicles even in the afternoon time violating the curfew orders. Police also are more lenient towards such violations.

The positivity rate is not dipping and is still above 30 per cent. More than 1000 positive cases are detected every day. On average 40 deaths have been reported.

The government will take decisions about the extension of the curfew period in the state. However, many people feel that the curfew period has to be extended.

Although the shops and other commercial activities are closed the vehicle riders are seen moving in higher frequency compared to the initial days of curfew.

During the initial days of curfew, one or two vehicles were seen on the roads in the evening time. However, the frequency has increased to around 25 vehicles at a time on the road.

There is a rush seen for items such as fish in the places where such sale happens.

In Mapusa, for the last two days, there has been a rush for purchasing plastic sheets used to cover roofs as protection from the rain. However, people failed to protect themselves from the transmission of Covid.

Testing reduced: The number of samples tested every day has been reduced for the last few days. Few days around 8,000 samples were tested. Now it has reduced to half and 4,000 to 5,000 samples per day in the state.
