44 MORE DIE OF COVID, TOLL AT 2,272, 1,582 NEW CASES

PANAJI

Covid-19 claimed 44 more lives in Goa in the 24-hours between the evenings of Wednesday and Thursday.

The State's overall pandemic toll thus spiked to 2,272 but more than numbers of concern on Thursday was that one of the 44 victims of the dreaded virus was a lady who was inoculated with both doses of the vaccine.

The health departments mortality report said the 62-year-old lady who died was from Vasco and had taken both doses of the vaccine.

The report also cited "pelvic abscess" as the immediate cause and also that the patient had high blood pressure issues.

Two others from the 44 victims had received the vaccine's first dose.

Late admissions to hospitals continue to be a worrying issue seemingly contributing to higher mortality. The DHS bulletin said nine of the 44 deceased succumbed within 24-hours of being admitted while another two victims were brought dead.

Half of the 44 deaths occurred at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim and 12 died at the South Goa District Hospital.

The ESI hospital in Margao and a private hospital in North Goa had two deaths each and a private hospital in South Goa had three deaths.

The sub-district hospitals at Ponda and Chicalim accounted for one death each as did the PHC at Curtorim.

Meanwhile, new cases showed a marginal decline with 1,582 of the 4,581 people's samples tested turning out positive.

The declining positivity rate trend also continued and was on Thursday recorded as 34.53%.
