While the residents of the St Jacinto Island and the Navy may have jointly hoisted the National flag on Saturday afternoon, the residents were upset with the anti national remark made against them by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in his tweet on Saturday.
The residents condemned the statement and said the CM should have found out the facts tweeting.
A resident Darryl D’Souza said questioning the Navy for digging a place when they didn’t any document on hand cannot be called anti-national activity.
"We condemn the statement of the CM. I have been living on the island for 53 years and we have been hoisting flags for several years but the CM’s statement has lowered his own respect. We respect the Navy, the nation, the National flag and this statement by CM is uncalled for. We are not anti nationals and the Navy was only questioned for digging a piece of spot land on the island," said D’Souza
Another resident Richard Caiado said "the CM should have found out facts before posting such a statement. He should have commented only after studying the entire episode," said Caiado.
Another resident Franzel D’Cruz said the matter had been solved but the statement Islanders was uncalled for.
"The issue arose because of a communication gap. Calling us as anti-national was uncalled for. We fail to understand why he had to make this statement," said D’Cruz.
