College student booked for rape of minor girl, granted bail

PANAJI

The Sessions Court, Panaji on Tuesday granted conditional bail to an undergraduate student from Rajasthan, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an underage girl earlier this year.

While arguing for his bail, Mahesh Kumar Sutar, a 22-year-old final year BCom student submitted that he was falsely arrested by the Porvorim police as the victim girl claimed to him that she was major in age. He faces charges under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

He further argued that both are known to each other, “in a relationship” and that he has done nothing wrong with her as he defended his act citing misunderstanding.

Sutar, pleading for bail, said he comes from a ‘very poor financial background’ and that he is willing to abide by any terms and conditions imposed by the Court.
