A couple was seriously injured after their two-wheeler collided with a rent-a-car Thar jeep near the Verla-Canca Panchayat on Friday morning.
The couple, identified as Bhowesh Sawant and his wife Hita Sawant, sustained severe injuries, while their three-year-old child, who was also on the two-wheeler, fortunately escaped with minor injuries.
According to reports, the injured couple had gone to the sub-health centre near the Verla-Canca panchayat house to administer a dose to their little daughter.
After the dose, the couple and their daughter left for their home at Britovada-Parra on a scooter, when the oncoming jeep driven by a tourist overtaking another vehicle collided with the scooter.
The injured couple was initially taken to the North Goa District Hospital but was later shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) for further treatment.
Mapusa police conducted a panchanama at the accident site and registered a case against the jeep driver, Manish Darg of Uttar Pradesh. Sources said Manish Darg had come to Goa along with his wife and was staying at a villa in Anjuna. They were proceeding from Panaji towards the villa when the mishap took place.
The police have conducted an alcohol test on the driver and after receiving the report, the police will take further action. Police are investigating the case.
