PANAJI
Goa recorded abnormally high maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday a 5.1 degree Celsius higher than the usual normal temperature.
The temperature recorded at Panaji by the Meteorology Department on Sunday is the 14th highest maximum temperature recorded in the month of March as per data.
According to IMD scientist Rahul, the highest maximum temperature recorded at Panaji in the month of March was 39°C on March 12, 1979.
IMD attributed the change in weather condition due to strengthening of easterly winds and advection of warmer temperature at the lower levels of atmosphere.
The maximum temperature is very likely to be 3-4°C higher than the normal value over Goa. Similar condition is likely to continue for 24 more hours, the IMD advisory said.
IMD officials have also advised people to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks while working outdoors.
Recently, the Met Department had warned of a rise in maximum temperature by around 2°C over Goa.
It had also said lightning and winds gusting to 40 kmph were also likely at one or two places over Goa and that isolated light rain/thundershower would continue for 2 days.
