Govt must take demolition case to logical end: Siolim MLA

MAPUSA

Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo has strongly criticised the Agarwadekar family's sudden decision to withdraw their complaint in the illegal house demolition case in Assagao, calling it a betrayal of public trust.

Lobo emphasised the importance of pursuing the case to its conclusion to uphold the faith of Goans in the justice system.

"Political leaders, activists, and social workers from across Goa stood in solidarity with this family in Assagao. Then, suddenly, we hear that an agent of Pooja Sharma has intervened and resolved the matter with the family. I am unclear about the details of this settlement," Lobo expressed, urging the Chief Minister to ensure transparency and bring clarity to the situation.

Initially vocal about police inaction and delay, the family later surprised many by reversing their stance and withdrawing the case against Pooja Sharma, the prime accused, on Wednesday night.

"The entire community rallied behind this family, expecting a message to be sent to the builder lobby that illegal demolitions cannot go unchecked. Such incidents should not be tolerated," Lobo asserted, highlighting the broader implications of the case.

She called for a comprehensive investigation, including summoning Pooja Sharma for questioning if necessary, and emphasised the need for accountability.
