MARGAO
Strange it may seem, but is true that many Margao roads turned slippery during a slight drizzle on Thursday evening, resulting in accidents involving two-wheelers.
With roads at Borda, PWD Office and other places reporting accidents due to the slippery condition of the roads, the finger of suspicion was pointed at the Margao Municipal Council and the leaking garbage compactors.
The spillage of sludge from the garbage compactors has been a routine feature with neither the city fathers nor the civic babus getting the vehicles fitted with leachate tanks.
Margao Municipal councillor Camilo Barretto was personally seen dumping mud on the roads at Borda, which had turned slippery and caused many accidents.
At other places, workers of the door-to-door garbage collection contractor were seen spraying mud on the roads and barricading the slippery roads with coconut leaves in Fatorda.
After news spread that ruling BJP councillor Barretto had barricaded roads in Borda to caution two-wheeler riders of the danger, people took to social media to request the city fathers to get the party leaders to put a stop to the garbage compactors spilling leachate along the roads.
