Myron Fernandes, on the run since the death of a young private employee, was on Thursday arrested with his two accomplices on charges of culpable homicide, a day after the District & Sessions Court rejected the former’s anticipatory bail application.
A businessman by profession, the 25-year-old Agassaim resident and co-accused Gauresh Mangueshkar (20) and Salausinho Afonso (30) are arrested in the First Information Report (FIR) under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) read with 34 (common intention) of IPC.
“They were evading their arrest while Fernandes’ anticipatory bail application was pending hearing. After the court verdict, we intensified our search and traced their whereabouts. All three accused are arrested and each of them is remanded to three days of police custody,” an official at Panaji police station said.
Victim, 31-year-old Sumeet Megeri succumbed to head injuries on May 10, 81 days after he was brutally assaulted by a group led by the prime accused over a trivial matter. His post-mortem report ascertained ‘meningitis’ following trauma to the head after which the Panaji police registered the FIR against the accused.
