MAPUSA
Vice Chairman of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and Mapusa MLA, Joshua D’Souza said all urgent and pending works will go on even in the absence of the council and hoped that Mapusa will get better roads before Christmas.
“There should be no worries about taking up urgent and pending works. I want to assure the people of Mapusa that even if there is no council work will continue,” D’Souza said.
He said the extended monsoon has delayed the start of the hot-mixing plant in the State which could impact road works to a certain extent.
“Some of our road works were sanctioned and passed prior to the pandemic. By the end of November hot-mixing of these roads particularly from Carrasvaddo to Cunchelim can start,” D’Souza said.
“We hope to get good roads before Christmas but the extended monsoon has acted as a dampener and puts a question mark on starting of the hot-mix plant. If the plant starts the major road from Carrasvaddo right up to Sodiem via Cunchelim will be taken up first,” he added.
The Mapusa MLA said that civic election was far from his mind as the government was yet to decide when to hold the polls.
“It’s not fair to go to people and ask them to come to vote when everyone is concerned about their health due to the virus fear. I know some people who have not left their homes for the last four to five months,” D’Souza said.
“Things could be clear in January next year when the election could happen. But finally it depends on the government when to have the elections,” he added.
He also said that the government will soon take up the much delayed work on the new bus-stand.
