SANGUEM
The indefinite agitation called by sugarcane farmers under the banner of Uus Utpadak Sangarah Samiti at Sanguem entered into the second day on Sunday with no relief from the government authorities.
During the second day of agitation, the agitation saw over 400 farmers extending their support to the agitation. The farmers from Sancorda and other parts of the State also participated in the agitation on Sunday.
During the course of the day, Congress leader Sankalp Amonkar, Ex MLA Sanguem Subhash Phaldessai, ZP Rivona Suresh Kepekar and others visited the agitators.
Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar who was at Sanguem for some other function also visited the agitating sugarcane farmers and expressed hope of getting the issue resolved soon.
Overnight, around 50 farmers continued with their agitation and slept in the cold weather. Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar also spend the night with the farmers which was largely appreciated by the sugarcane farmers. Gaonkar however claimed himself to be a born farmer and knows how much hardship and efforts the farmers are putting in getting the agriculture produce.
Chairperson Uus Utpadak Sangarsh Samiti Kushta Gaonkar claimed that the agitation will continue till the time the government considers their request in writing.
Kushta Gaonkar however appealed the government not to take the farmers agitation lightly as it may prove costly for the government if not resolved.
