Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate on Thursday said the disposal of the tenancy and mundcarial cases must have slowed down because of the adjournment of hearings in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Minister, however, said the government is committed to ensuring the expeditious disposal of the tenancy and mundcarial cases, pointing out to the government’s decision to hold Saturday courts for speedy disposal of the pending cases.
When his attention was drawn to complaints from litigants that adjournments of tenancy and mundcarial cases have now become a norm than an exception, the Revenue Minister attributed the adjournments to the election process that has been set in motion by the Election Commission of India.
“Almost all the officials are busy or involved in the conduct of the forthcoming Lok Sabha election. Hence, the cases must have been adjourned at the Mamlatdar Courts,” he said.
Monserrate, however, said the government has set a target for the speedy disposal of the tenancy and mundcarial cases at the earliest. “We have revived the Saturday courts precisely in order to ensure speedy disposal of the cases. The government is committed for expeditious disposal of these cases,” he added.
