The Electricity Department has planned maintenance work at several places on the grid of Tiswadi taluka and will shut down power in a staggered manner in Panaji and surrounding areas for three days from Wednesday.
Instead of shutting down power in the entire area, the department will out power in circuit islands, section by section, where the urgent maintenance work is to be carried out.
A senior official said, the areas where the work will be carried out will be isolated and the power supply shut down only in those areas to reduce the inconvenience to the public.
The work is related to pre-monsoon preparedness and it is essential that it is carried out now as conditions make it impossible to work in case of failure during the monsoon, he said.
There will also be power shutdowns in segregated areas of the Old Goa region on May 30 and 31 for the same reasons, the engineer said.
