SANGUEM
Sanguem MLA and Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phaldessai clarified that the site proposed for IIT at Sanguem is free from any agricultural plantation and is totally owned by Government of Goa.
He was speaking as Guest of Honour at the 39 Anniversary function of Sanguem Patrakar Sanguem held at Ravindra Bhavan Curchorem.
PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral was the Guest of Honour while Chairperson CCMC Dr Jasmine Braganza was the special invitee.
Speaking further Phaldessai said that the IIT is totally an educational based green project and would not cause harm to any person or environment.
He said that the opposition raised by some people is misleading and that there people does not have any say as far the area to be used for the IIT project. While earlier the government had proposed acquisition of 15 lakhs square metres of land which partly comprised of land owned by private parties, the government has set aside this part of private owned land from acquisition and instead have decided to go ahead with the project only the portion of land which is exclusively owned by Government and where there does not exist any farm lands.
Unlike mining operations which led to maximum pollution in the twin towns of Curchorem and Sanguem and which incidentally people tolerated from all sides, IIT will not cause any harm to the environment as is otherwise alleged by a group of so called farmers.
Phaldessai however castigated a group of people with alleged intention to grab the government land and than sell the same to outsiders for hefty sum without any title documents. Phaldessai cited of two structures which had come up on the proposed government land some two years back and which the authorities later had to demolish after obtaining orders from the deputy collector.
The IIT project once commissioned will lead to overall development of Sanguem and Curchorem constituency and will also lead to development of indigenous equipments and softwares for the safety concern of the Nation.
Phaldessai appealed the people to wholeheartedly support the IIT project by keeping their differences, if any aside as in the long run it would highly benefit the locals.
PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral in his brief address complimented the journalists from Sanguem for highlighting the issues concerning the people from Sanguem, Curchorem and Quepem.
Cabral however urged the media personnel to take both sides of the issue before reporting the matter in the print and electronic media as many a times only one side is reported with no say from other side.
Special invitees Dr Jasmine Braganza and ZP Member Siddharth Gauns Desai also spoke on the ocassion.
On the ocassion, meritorious students of Class X and XII from Curchorem and three government servants were felicitated. The Sangh also felicitated the members of Sanguem and Quepem Patrakar Sanguem for their service to the society during pandemic Covid 19.
The function was compered by Dr Sarvananand Sawant Dessai while President of Sanguem Quepem Patrakar Sangh proposed the vote of thanks.
