Reacting to the statement of Governor P S Shreedharan Pillai that Goa cannot be only for Goans, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar said his party never said Goa is only for Goans.
“Revolutionary Goans are fighting for preserving the identity and culture of Goa and to ensure that Goans get their rights,” Borkar stated.
“As the Governor himself said, we are also fighting to ensure that Goans get first preference in all sectors,” the MLA further added.
“Today, Goans are forced to go abroad as there are lack of opportunities here with jobs being taken by outsiders,” Borkar said.
When pointed out that the Governor’s statement could have been made in the context of the Revolutionary Goans targeting the migrants, Borkar said they are not targeting the migrants but rather the illegalities that they are undertaking.
“One can see how our comunidade land is being illegally grabbed by migrants, resulting in mushrooming of slums, scrapyards, etc,” he added.
“Even our POGO Bill is aimed at giving the Goans their due rights and we are also aware that it is not possible that Goa could be for Goans only,” Borkar stated.
