Taking objection to plans to curtail the duration of the assembly session, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has petitioned the governor and speaker stating that the assembly session should not be curtailed as MLAs have many questions in the public interest which need to be discussed in the session."We have heard there are attempts to curtail the duration of the 25-day assembly session. The RGP has submitted a memorandum to the Governor and Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly not to curtail the assembly session. It is the privilege of MLAs to raise questions in the assembly and the RGP has raised many written questions in the assembly,” said RGP MLA Viresh Borkar, while addressing a news conference.
The government has hinted that the duration of the assembly session could be curtailed due to panchayat elections and the Business Advisory Committee in its meeting will take the final decision on the matter.
"The panchayat elections and the assembly session have absolutely no relation,” said Borkar.
Meanwhile, RGP President Manoj Parab has taken strong objection to the remark of Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar that the People of Goan Origin (POGO) bill will not be discussed in the assembly session.
“We will not tolerate attempts to mock the POGO bill. The Speaker has said the POGO bill will not be discussed in the assembly session. How can a speaker claim this bill will not be discussed in the Assembly without taking inputs on the bill,” questioned Parab.
“The POGO bill defines who is Goan or Goenkar and such definition is important in the present context,” added Parab.
