CANACONA
Voicing concern over the rising Covid cases in Canacona taluka, the Canacona Nagrik Samiti (CNS) and some citizens met in Chaudi on Tuesday to discuss ways to break the chain of Covid cases in the taluka.
During the meeting, it was felt that the traders and business community should be part of measures, if any, being proposed, planned and executed in the taluka.
Some prominent members of the public, including a social worker and Headmaster (Retd) Shantaji Naikgaunkar, also discussed the possibility of asking the people to have a self-imposed lockdown to curb the spread of Covid, since the State government was unwilling to enforce a statewide lockdown.
The Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) is expected to meet on Thursday and the like-minded people have decided to approach the CMC soon after the meet to discuss measures to tackle the spread of Covid in the taluka.
They hope the CMC will suspend the weekly bazaar on Saturday, while resorting to the partial shutdown, limiting business operations mainly to essential commodities/services and dissuading people from unnecessarily leaving their houses, as part of efforts to stop the further spread of coronavirus.
According to CNS member Shankar Naik, people are in panic and under stress over the sharp rise in Covid cases across Canacona taluka.
