Hundreds of government vehicles lying unused and parked along public roads and elsewhere will no longer remain the eyesores they have been for years as the State government has decided to auction these soon at 'scrap melas' in three cities -- Porvorim, Mapusa and Margao.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said these melas will be held as soon as possible and around 250 government vehicles, including around 34 which are less than 15 years old, will be disposed of.
These 'scrap melas' will be widely advertised for two days before they are held and citizens will be permitted to directly participate in the auctions, Sawant said, adding that it is an initiative to fast-track the disposal of condemned and out of use government vehicles.

TA posts in GEDA (subhead)
The Pramod Sawant-led cabinet which met on Wednesday gave its approval for the creation of three new posts of technical assistants (TAs) in the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) which is tasked with driving the State's renewal energy initiatives.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who addressed the media after the meeting said these are three new technical positions being created for GEDA.
In other decisions, the cabinet also gave post-facto approval for some temporary contract-basis positions in other departments.
Sawant said the cabinet also granted its post-facto approval for costs incurred in carrying out some residual work for the Exposition of the sacred relics of St Francis Xavier.
QR code released
for Viksit Goa plan
The Goa government's Planning and Statistics Department has released a QR Code through which citizens can send in their suggestions and participate in the process of preparing the vision document for the State's 'Viksit Goa 2037' push.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urged citizens to share their insights and suggestions for the document which will guide the State's long-term development.
Inputs can be shared via the GoaOnline portal or by scanning QR code released on Wednesday and which will be widely displayed through advertisements and on posters put up at public locations in the State.
Sawant said May 25 will be the deadline for sending in suggestions and the vision document will be ready within six months.
Corporate Chanakya Services Pvt Ltd has bagged the deal to prepare the vision document and will incorporate the public suggestions which are received.
