The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is bracing itself to launch a programme to sensitize stake-holders on the FSSAI spearheaded nation-wide initiative to cut down wastage of food.
For starters, FDA will on Thursday hold a meeting with representatives of all offices and companies operating in the State and who provide food to their employees on a daily basis.
The 'Save Food, Share Food, Share Joy’ initiative has been launched by FSSAI across the country which aims to ensure methodological reduction of food wastage and collection of 'excess food' by registered agencies and further distributed to the hungry and needy.
"The initiative aims at reducing food wastage and ensuring excess food is collected in a methodical manner and further provided to the hungry and needy," the FDA said, even as it appealed to to citizens, private firms, banquet halls, caterers, companies and others to engage with the programme and give excess food to FSSAI registered Food Collection agencies.
The programme gains significance in the backdrop of India's poor performance and decline to the 107th rank among 121 countries in the Global Hunger Index.
