Shivaji row: Two complaints filed against sarpanch of Calangute

MAPUSA

Even as Goa Police are yet to register an FIR over the complaint filed by the Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, an obscure NGO by the name Goenchi Nari Shakti based in Mapusa and Karni Sena having its head office in Haryana on Thursday filed two separate police complaints against Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira.

They have accused the sarpanch of hurting religious sentiments and instigating peaceful and harmonious Shiv Premis as well as other members of Hindu community.

The Goenchi Nari Shakti’s founder president Nisha Vernekar said the statue of Shivaji was publicly installed by local residents as well as Shiv Premis from other places through funds collected from public donations.

The complaint further said that the sarpanch through an arbitrary order decided to demolish and remove the statue.

“The decision is communal in nature taken with mala fide intention to hurt religious sentiments of Hindu community,” Vernekar said in the complaint.

Karni Sena’s General Secretary of Goa Santosh Singh Rajput in his complaint demanded filing FIR against Sequeira and two others for passing illegal resolution to hurt the sentiments of Shivaji followers and instigate communal riots.

The complaint also said that the sarpanch misused/misguided the police and state administration to protect his illegal acts.
