MARGAO
GOACAN has requested South Goa District Collector, Ruchika Katyal to conduct an inquiry into seizure of 56 bags of gutka worth Rs 23 lakh at the Margao railway station.
GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins has called for a special meeting of the Railway Officials & Goa Police be convened to work out a joint action plan to prevent the arrival of such Gutka consignments in future.
He recalled that at the meeting of the South Goa District Level Coordination Committee for Tobacco Control held on 9th June 2021, GOACAN had pointed out that details are required about the seizure of gutka worth Rs 15 lakh by the Crime Branch from warehouses in Ponda and Margao. “This information is required so that the Taluka Enforcement Squads are able to understand the pattern of storage and distribution of these products,” he stated in the letter. Martins said this matter requires a response at the earliest keeping in mind the training programme to be held for all the COTPA Enforcement Squads of South Goa District on September 24.
Copies of the GOACAN letter have been sent to the Chief Secretary, Health Secretary, DGP Goa Police, Director of Health Services and SP South Goa Police and District Nodal Officer Hospicio Hospital.
