Will the Goa Industrial Development Corporation and the Labour Commissioner explain the status of the action initiated against the factories operating at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate for housing workers inside the industrial units?
The Goa IDC had issued show cause notices to close to 24 industrial units at Cuncolim Industrial Estate over a month ago after these units were found providing shelter to the manpower working in these units.
In fact, Labour Commissioner Agnelo Fernandes was forthright in admitting that it’s blatantly illegal to shelter workers employed in the industrial estate.
Based on the join inspection, the Goa IDC had issued notices on the industrial units to show cause as to why action should not be initiated against them for housing the industrial workers.
The fate of the show cause notices remains unknown since the IDC and the department of Industries had drawn up plan to convene meeting with the owners of the industrial estates to evolve a solution.
