MMC chief keeping watch on employees’ prompt attendance

MARGAO
Is the presence of Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar in the Municipal building every day at 9.30 in the morning enough to ensure prompt attendance of the civic employees and workers?

Or, should the time-tested bio-metric finger scan face reader mechanism a must to record the attendance of the Municipal employees to prevent manipulation in the attendance?

These questions have come to the fore in the corridors of the Margao Municipal Council since incumbent Chairperson Damu Shirodkar seemed not moving with alacrity to resume bio-metric finger scan attendance for the civic employees and workers.

For, when the media sought to know from the Margao civic chief why he has not re-started the bio-metric finger attendance for the employees, he replied back saying he makes his presence felt in the civic body at 9.30 am, the time when the employees are mandate to join duties. “I come to the civic body at 9.30 am and take a round of the sections, beginning from the technical section. I make my presence felt in Municipal garden at around 7.30 am to see that the workers report for duties,” he said.

Promising to look into the question of re-start of the bio-metric finger scan attendance for the employees, Damu pointed out that he may consider starting the device if there is a need, indicating the bio-metric finger scan attendance is not on the priority list of the civic chief.

Meanwhile, the MMC chairperson has said the pre-monsoon work carried out by the civic body is taking place in a big way. He said debris, including garden waste and dry grass is being collected from all the wards and dumped near the KTC bus stand. “We had started the pre-monsoon works, including desilting of drains long ago. This should certainly help to act better during the monsoons,” he added.

The MMC chairperson, however, said that the civic body could not find the professional tree cutters this time round, forcing the civic body to request the district Collectorate to take up the work of trimming of trees.

Saying the MMC coffers have been enriched by around Rs 25 lakh so far, the MMC chief said the civic body will end up in earning revenue to the tune of over Rs 30 lakh way of fees from the ongoing Old market feast fair.
