Unknown persons stole a tourist taxi at Colvale after they pretended to seek a lift from the taxi driver on Wednesday at about 12.30 am.
According to reports, the incident took place as the taxi driver Fayaz Ahmed Mulla (65) of Curti-Ponda had taken passengers from Panaji to the Mopa Airport in his tourist taxi car.
While he was returning from the trip, three persons stopped him and sought a lift.
Mulla obliged and the three persons sat in his car. They then asked Mulla to put their bag, which was kept outside, inside the car boot.
When the driver got off the car to put the bag in the boot, the three of them fled with his tourist taxi.
Mulla himself asked for a lift and went to the Panaji bus stand, where he called the police on the toll number. The police brought Mulla to the police station by their vehicle and then took him to the Colvale police station.
