Better deal for contractual staff; new department for persons with disability approved

PANAJI
The State government has approved a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for its non-gazetted group ‘C’ employees, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced.

The scheme approved by Sawant's cabinet on Wednesday stipulates that group 'C' employees of the Goa government are eligible and can opt for voluntary retirement once they have completed 15 years of service. The benefits include a lump sum payment of a two-month salary for every remaining year of service left of the employee opting for the VRS, Sawant said in a press briefing after the cabinet meeting.

Better deal for contractual staff
The cabinet also approved a proposal which offers better service conditions for contract employees of the State government.

Under this proposal, contractual staff of the government will be able to avail of maternity leave, including for miscarriages. Also, staff at the various judicial custody jails will get salaries on the basis of pay scales which are on par with those of the police department.

Separate dept for PwDs
The Chief Minister also said the State cabinet has granted approval for creating a new department dedicated to persons with disability (PwDs). “This new department for PwDs will be set up and be operational from the start of the next financial year," Sawant said.
