MARGAO
The Chief Minister said no purpose will be served by the state going in for a lockdown, while adding that the number of visitors and tourists entering the state has already come down drastically over the last one week.
Instead, the Chief Minister made an appeal to the people to stay alert against the spread of Coronavirus, assuring that the government will ramp up the facilities and logistics to fight the battle.
“Will anyone profit if we go for a lockdown or restrict the tourists visiting the state. At present, there’s a 70 per cent reduction in the arrival of tourists and visitors to the state. We have checked the arrivals at the airports and the reports suggested a drop in arrivals by 30 per cent. Similarly, road travellers have also come down drastically,” he said while interacting with media persons in Margao on Sunday.
The Chief Minister said that majority of the hotels have been lying empty for the last eight days due to the surge in Covid cases across the country.
Asserting that the government is concerned about the emerging situation, the Chief Minister said shutting down of businesses is not the answer to handle the Covid situation. “We can't stop those who come for business. Our information suggests there’s hardly 30 per cent people coming into the state for business”, he added.
