NCP prez declares panel for Mormugao polls

VASCO
NCP State President and former minister Jose Philip D'Souza on Sunday launched a panel of six candidates from different wards to contest the upcoming Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC)  polls while also claiming to support independent candidates from 4 other wards.

Former MMC Chairperson Fiola Rego (Ward 15), former councillor Neny Dsouza (Ward 17), Amindin Mullal (Ward 12), Sainath Amonkar (Ward 20), Sabina Sayed (Ward 22) and Seema Kinlekar (Ward 4) are a part of the panel backed by D'souza.

Speaking to reporters D'souza said that people should only elect candidates who have a vision for development works combined with a  social work background.

"It is important to have the right candidate for the people. Many outgoing councillors have now become businessmen and it is a big question whether they will do justice to their business or give time to the people."

"The candidate must be helpful and have enough time to dedicate to their voters. The state of the council is gone from bad to worse and this situation has affected the lives of the people. Our panel have a passion to work for the people and also have the vision to carry out development in their wards," said D'souza.

D'souza said that there were many other wards where his supporters were contesting and hence he did not want to disturb the environment in the ward by placing a candidate.

"We are supporting candidates in other wards as well and we have decided not to unnecessarily place candidates in those wards. Those candidates are our well-wishers and supporters and though we could have placed candidates in all 25 wards, we decided to place candidates where we have a considerable base of supporters," said D'souza.
