Even as the South Goa Sessions Court heard arguments on rape accused Dr Samuel Arawattigi’s bail application on Monday, Chinchinim village witnessed an uproar, with political parties demanding the immediate revocation of the licence issued to the clinic and diagnostic centre pending investigations.

While Aam Aadmi Party Velim MLA Cruz Silva dashed off a letter to the Chinchinim Sarpanch to revoke the licence to Dr Samuel’s clinic, Congress workers hit the streets at Chinchinim on Monday demanding the closure of the clinic.

In his letter to the Chinchinim Panchayat, the Velim MLA stated that the alleged molestation and rape of the clinic's nurse by Dr Samuel Arawattigi has not only shaken the trust and dignity of the community but has also created an atmosphere of fear and shame among residents. “Given the gravity of the situation, I urge the Panchayat to take immediate action.”

“As confirmed by law enforcement authorities, Dr Samuel Arawattigi has been arrested and remains in custody. Until the case reaches its rightful legal conclusion, allowing the clinic to continue operations poses a serious concern for public safety and moral responsibility. In light of this, I request the Panchayat to revoke the clinic's licence until a final verdict is reached in the case,” Cruz stated in his letter.

He added: “This decision will reflect our collective commitment to justice and the well-being of our people. I trust the panchayat will act swiftly in this matter, prioritising the safety and integrity of our community.”
