After nearly a year, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has finally recognised Revolutionary Goans as a political party with the name 'Revolutionary Goans Party’ (RGP) and football as its election symbol.

The Revolutionary Goans had applied to the Election Commission for registration as a political party in February 2021, but the process was halted for some time as ECI has raised some objections and had sought explanations from Revolutionary Goans.

Addressing a news conference, RGP chief Manoj Parab said all objections were cleared and RGP has been registered ahead of the assembly elections.

Parab said there had been considerable pressure to delay the registration of their party.

“A person had filed a 27-page objection on May 27 alleging that the Revolutionary Goans is spreading hatred against non-Goans and there are criminal cases against office bearers of Revolutionary Goans.”

“There was an allegation that RG was trying to bring an unconstitutional POGO bill. It was a conspiracy to prove RG an unconstitutional and anti-national party,” said Manoj Parab.

“These objections were successfully countered to get the party registered. We thank advocate Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira who helped RGP to counter the objections in a 260-page reply to the ECI,” said Parab.

Revolutionary Goans had earlier decided to contest the 2022 general Assembly elections on all 40 seats under the banner of Goa Su-Raj Party (GSRP), at a public meeting in Azad Maidan on December 15.

Asked if the RGP would still contest under the banner of GSRP or on its own banner of RGP, Parab said they had applied for the poll symbol of GSRP and a decision whether to contest on the banner of GSRP or RGP will be taken after the symbol is approved,” Manoj Parab.

Parab said the RGP will field candidates in all 40 constituencies without forming any alliance with any other political party.
