In a special drive against illegal taxi operations and touting around Manohar International Airport, the Mopa Airport Police registered two FIRs and booked several offenders since June 19.

Information shared by Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta stated that two separate FIRs were registered against the owners of two tourist taxis for allegedly illegally hiring these vehicles for rent.

“In the first case, the owner of a Suzuki Baleno was found to have intentionally forged the registration plate. The vehicle was originally registered with the RTO Pernem as a tourist taxi, but the owner illegally converted it into a ‘Rent a Cab’ service without proper documentation and rented it out for profit. The second case involved a Toyota Glanza, registered as a private car but was similarly converted to operate as a rent-a-cab without authorisation,” he said.

Besides, three separate cases were booked under Section 192-A of the Motor Vehicles Act against vehicle owners who illegally rented out private vehicles to customers. Two such vehicles were detained at the police station, and their owners were summoned for further action.

In its ongoing drive, the police also booked ten drivers for allegedly illegally operating as touts at the airport premises. SP Gupta said they were produced before the Directorate of Tourism in Panaji for further action.
