MMC councillor gets TMC's Margao ticket

First time young Margao municipal councillor Mahesh Amonkar will be the Trinamool Congress Party candidate for the Margao Assembly seat.

Former Margao Municipal Chairperson, councillor Ganashyam Shirodkar, who lost out in the ticket race, said his supporters and well-wishers will take a call on the future course of action in the wake of the development.

“I have nothing to say over the party’s decision to nominate councillor Mahesh Amonkar for the Margao seat. The party may have taken the decision in the interest of the party. I have nothing to say”, Ganashyam said.

He, however, said his supporters and well-wishers will meet on Sunday to take stock of the situation and chalk out the future course of action.

Many in the commercial capital had believed that the TMC will nominate the former MMC chairperson to take on Opposition Leader and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat in Margao.  Amongst the host of reasons, it was believed that Ganashyam, who is representing the Moti Dongor ward, will be in a position to split the votes atop the migrant bastie, which has till remained a stronghold of the Margao MLA over the years.
