AI agency, Traffic cell awareness drive sought before challans issued

MARGAO

After the agency operating the AI cameras pointed out that the AI took 5-6 months to learn the traffic movement at the traffic junctions, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Saturday told the agency as well as the Fatorda Traffic cell to immediately start an awareness drive before challaning the traffic violations.

“If the agency that is operating the cameras have said that the AIs is like a new born baby, having taken time to learn the traffic patterns at the traffic junctions for the last 5-6 months, the motorists and citizens should also be given adequate time to comply with the traffic requirements”, Sardesai said.

The Fatorda constituency plays host to around five AI-manned traffic signals at Old market, near Nehru stadium, Arlem circle, Boshe circle and Munj Vihar circle.

The Fatorda MLA called Fatorda Traffic Cell in-charge, PI Costa and the representatives of the agency that have installed the AI operated signals on Saturday.

During the discussion, the agency official pointed out that the AIs have taken around 5-6 months to learn and study the traffic pattern at the junction before working out the waiting time.

“The AI signals are like new born babies”, the official said, adding that the Traffic police station in-charges have been provided with tabs to help streamline the situation.

While pointed out that he is fully in favour of traffic signals to regulate traffic at the junctions, Sardesai, however, insisted on an awareness drive by the agency along with the traffic officials before implementing the system.

“The agency can take the help of the media to communicate with members of the public and motorists on how they will go about implementing the system”, Sardesai added.
