Bicholim Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar and Mamlatdar Gurudas Desai have directed mining companies to undertake precautionary measures in their mining pits, to avoid fatalities during the monsoon.

The mining companies have also been asked to submit a report of the measures undertaken.

The order was passed in the wake of fatalities on two occasions in the past. About two decades ago, four persons had died after a mining pit breached at Mulgao, while in another incident about 3 years ago, two persons were washed away following a breach in a mining pit.
