The Goa government has declared the names of the teachers selected for the State Awards 2020-21. Annually awards to teachers for their outstanding services are presented on the Teachers’ Day, on September 5.
The 10 recipients of the State awards will be felicitated on September 6 at 4 pm, stated Bhushan Sawaikar, Director of Education in a press release.
In Primary teachers’ category two teachers have been selected, one each from North and South Goa “ Dilip Tukoji Mhamal from Government Primary School, Pernem and Vivekanand Krishna Prabhugaonkar from Government Primary School, Poinguinim, Canacona. In secondary teachers’ category, assistant teacher Vidya Krishna Mhalshekar from Government HS, Valpoi; art teacher Avinash Dattaram Virnodkar from Bal Bhavan Vidyamandir, Ribandar; special educator, Mahadev Hanumant Shinde from Gujarati Samaj Special School, Margao and assistant teacher Elba Bertha Noronha from Government HS, Balli Quepem.
In High School Headmaster category, Vilas Ramnath Satarkar, headmaster at K B Hedgewar HS, Cujira and Sindhu Prabhu Dessai, vice principal of Government Multipurpose HSS, Margao and ex-headmistress, Government HS, Malkarnem are selected.
Vilas Satarkar has worked as advisory committee member on the then State Institute of Education (SIE), now SCERT and was on various education committees. Sindhu Prabhu Dessai, a national awardee for 2020, was the youngest awardee from Goa and India in 2020. A gold medallist in Chemistry, she has 14 years of experience in the field of education.
In Higher Secondary teachers’ category, Chandralekha Damodar Mestri, grade I teacher from S S Angle HSS, Mashem Loliem, Canacona has been selected for the State award from the entire State of Goa. Chandralekha has teaching experience of 21 years. She participated in the State level teaching aid competition winning 16 prizes and three prizes at the National West Zone.
Rupa Sanjay Prabhu Khope, principal, Vasantrao Dempo HSS of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira Bambolim has been selected for the State award in the Higher Secondary Principal’s category for the entire State of Goa. Rupa who has served teacher grade I for 32 years, had taken charge as principal in October 2015 and ably dealt with the amalgamation of two schools, focussing on improving the academics and administration. Bringing entertainment and joy to the classroom through theatre, dance and music, she conducted workshops for teachers to motivate them.
