After hacking over 70 coconut trees along the Mapusa-Parra road, is the government planning to chop more than 100 trees lined along the Guirim-Mapusa road?
According to heritage activist Prajal Sakhardande, the government is planning to cut the coconut trees along the Guirim-Porvorim highway.
“Six coconut trees along this highway have already been cut. Our decision to hold the protest here was a symbolic because all these beautiful coconut trees are supposed to be cut,” Sakhardande told The Goan pointing to the coconut trees lined up along the Guirim-Mapusa highway.
He said the protest to save the coconut tree is not a political movement. He also said Goans will not rest until this government retains the status of the coconut tree.
“Our coconut trees are beautiful and they add an unique feature to brand Goa. Their survival is also important to our eco system,” he added.
