SALIGAO
Tourism Minister and Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar has stated that around 1,000 fruit-bearing saplings will be planted along the roads of Saligao and neighbouring villages.
“Emphasis should be given to preserve environment by one and all,” said Parulekar, while speaking at a function organised by the Saligao BJP Mandal to distribute coconut saplings to farmers of Saligao constituency.
Free coconut saplings are being distributed to around 1,200 farmers from six panchayats in Saligao constituency, comprising Saligao, Sangolda, Reis Magos, Pilerne-Marra, Nerul and Guirim.
“Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy and farmers should preserve their land and increase crop production by adopting innovative methods of cultivation.”
“The State government offers subsidies ranging from 75 to 90 per cent to farmers for purchase of agricultural machinery, power tillers, tractors, etc. Farmers should avail of these benefits. I have decided to plant around 1,000 fruit-bearing saplings along the roads of Saligao and other panchayats,” said Parulekar.
Saligao BJP Block President Deepak Rane said the growing rise in prices of coconuts has made coconut plantation a viable business in Goa.
“Farmers should plant more and more coconuts trees to augment their income. Goan farmers are hardworking and are not averse to modern and progressive ideas,” said Rane.
