VASCO:
The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad booked 11 cases for violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and recovered fines of Rs 2,200 from grocery stores, liquor store, pharmacy, restaurants and fast food kiosks at Mundvel-Vaddem, Vasco.
The Squad which was led by Gajesh P. Shirodkar Joint Mamlatdar-III Mormugao Taluka included GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins, Circle Inspector Hanumant Mandrekar, Gautam Salunke Talathi and Police constable Venkat Prasad of Vasco Police Station.
During the inspection, the Squad also found in some establishments that the no-smoking signage was not properly displayed as required under COTPA and the FSSAI Registration Certificate was not displayed.
A report of the inspection will be submitted to the South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus, IAS and Dr Sarah George, Member Secretary District Level Coordination Committee for COTPA, at the next quarterly review meeting.
