Around 1250 polling personnel fanned out to various polling stations across Salcete taluka on Friday ahead of the elections for the South Goa Zilla panchayat seat scheduled on Saturday.
Salcete has a total of nine Zilla Panchayat seats. However, elections will be held only for the eight seats of Velim, Benaulim, Colva, Nuvem, Raia, Curtorim, Davorlim and Guirdolim as elections for the Navelim seat stands countermanded following the demise of a candidate.
Returning Officer, John Fernandes, informed that around 1250 polling personnel have reached 192 polling stations on Friday after they were distributed the polling material by the officials.
Accompanied by armed police personnel, the polling stations were transported in Bal Rath school buses to their respective polling stations by the district authorities.
The South Collectorate complex bustled with activity on Friday morning when the polling personnel assembled in a specially erected pandal to collect their polling material. The two Returning Officers for Salcete, Jyoti Kumari and John Fernandes, supervised the entire polling material distribution process before the officials all headed to their respective polling stations.
