13 months running, employees of South Goa Admin of Comunidades yet to receive salaries

MARGAO
It’s now thirteen months running and beleaguered employees of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades have been left high and dry without salaries.

In fact, the government’s delay in clearing the salary payments of the 25-odd staff and employees of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidades has now become a norm than an exception. For, the beleaguered employees have been never paid their salaries on time for the last many years, when their counterparts in other departments have been receiving regular salaries on time.

Employees have been demanding that the government either pay their salaries month-wise or absorb them in other government departments, including the revenue department.

“We have been undergoing this ordeal for years now. Never have the government paid our salaries on time. We are not only executing our regular duties as Comunidade employees but take up duties assigned by the government from time to time,” remarked an employee.

He added: “Just imagine a situation wherein you are not paid for months and you have to take care of your families, including the children. Many a time, we are left with no option but to borrow money from friends and family members as the salaries have not been paid on time”.

Another comunidade employee pointed out that the staff and employees had to go without salaries for the last one year, adding that it will be 13 months if the government does not disburse their salaries by this month-end.

Sources in the know informed that the payment of salary issue had figured at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and revenue officials, wherein the CM was believed to have called for details on the salary arrears of the comunidade employees.

While the Chief Minister is believed to have mulled measures for the monthly payment of salaries of the comunidade employees, the workers only hope that the Chief Minister’s sentiments are respected by the concerned officials by ensuring monthly salary payments.
