A 44-year-old pedestrian from New Vaddem was killed while two others were injured in a hit and run accident near Shantinagar in Vasco early Wednesday morning.
According to police sources, Hurilal Jaiswal and two others were walking along the 4-lane highway between 5.30 am and 6 am when they were knocked down by a car (GA-06-F-0652) from behind, before fleeing from the site.
While Jaiswal, Subhash Patil and Shweta Patil were shifted to the Chicalim Sub District Hospital, where doctors declared Jaiswal dead. The two others are undergoing treatment, the source said.
"The car was driven by one Paxton Pereira (47) of Mangor Hill and though he fled with the car from the site, Vasco police managed to trace the car from his house and attached the vehicle.”
“Police will also carry out a medical examination to see if the driver was under the influence of alcohol during the accident," the source added.
Vasco police is investigating the case.
