In a move pregnant with potential to derive goodwill and political dividend, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has approved some 1500 vacancies and also got his administration to kick-start the recruitment process to fill up these posts, before leaving Goa for his health-related trip to the United States.

On Friday, the Personnel Department issued written directions to heads of multiple departments to begin the procedure for recruiting staff against these vacancies approved by the government.

Bulk of this recruitment officials sources said will happen in the Goa police force whose ranks are set to swell with 902 more men set to be added to their nearly 6000-strong rosters.

Another 94 posts are set to be filled in the Directorate of Settlement and Land Records.

Other departments where vacancies have been identified and sanctioned for recruitment by the government include Science and Technology and Environment (77), Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (90), Art & Culture (59), Directorate of Panchayats (56), Agriculture department (51), Directorate of Prosecution (35), Fisheries Department (24) and 28 apiece for Inspector General of Prisons and Social Welfare Department.

The recruitment, according to the official sources, will be carried out in two phases. In the first round which could begin as early as August end, applications will be called for positions in the Police Department, Directorate of Prosecution, Department of Science & Technology, Directorate of Panchayats and the Directorate of Settlement and Land Records, besides a couple of other government offices.

In the second phase, which will be set in motion once the first round of hiring nears completion, the departments of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Agriculture, Art & Culture and Fisheries will commence rolling out their recruitment processes.

Both the phases of recruitment are expected to be completed in all respects by December this year.

In the face of widespread criticism over the precarious job market scenario, Parrikar had announced a slew of job
