The state’s Health Department on Wednesday recorded the highest single day count since the outbreak of the pandemic in March last year. A total of 1,502 new Covid cases were detected from among the 4,089 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate touched an all-time high of 37 per cent.
Presently, there are a total of 9,300 active Covid cases in the state.
Additionally, 17 Covid-related deaths were also recorded in the mortality bulletin of the Directorate of Health Services. This has raised the total Covid victim count of Goa to 943.
Nine of these deaths occurred at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, three at South Goa District Hospital in Margao, three patients were brought dead at Hospicio in Margao and one death each was recorded at a private hospital in North Goa and at a private hospital in South Goa.
Two of the patients passed away in less than 24 hours of being admitted at the hospital. The youngest among the deceased are a 27-year-old man from Marcel and a 39-year-old man from St Estevam.
The other deceased persons include a 74-year-old man from Panaji, a 79-year-old woman from Calangute, a 78-year-old man from Canacona, a 62-year-old man from Cuncolim, a 74-year-old woman from Davorlim, a 72-year-old man from Vasco, a 52-year-old woman from Vagator, a 58-year-old man from Mapusa, a 70-year-old woman from Bardez, a 42-year-old man from Mapusa, a 62-year-old woman from Moira, a 77-year-old man from Mapusa, a 72-year-old man from Calangute and 59-year-old man from Ponda. The list also includes an unknown woman aged between 45 and 50
years who was brought dead at Hospicio.
This is the second consecutive day the State has seen its Covid death count remaining above 15 while health authorities remain uncertain over the peak.
On Tuesday, 26 deaths were recorded which was the highest single-day victim count.
The State has now roped in private hospitals in the fight against Covid.
A combined space of 250 beds have been promised by the private hospitals following a meeting with the Health Minister on Tuesday.
