17 depts failed to utilise Rs 4,231 cr for 2019-20: CAG

PANAJI

As many as 17 departments have spent less than 50 per cent of financial provision for the financial year 2019-20 and Rs 4,231 crore were unutilised from a provision of Rs 9,833 crore, a Comptroller Auditor General (CAG) report has revealed.

The CAG noted that departments make supplementary provision additional to the original provisions, and in most cases, these departments have been unable to spend not only the entire supplementary provisions or parts but also the original budget provision.

The CAG observed that many schemes were not fully implemented for want of funds. As a result, the intended benefits of the schemes could not be extended to the public at large.

The departments which have fully utilised the funds allotted to them include the PWD, education, treasury, Municipal administration, water resources, and electricity and information technology.

Incidentally, 207 projects valued at Rs 1,000.24 crore pertaining to the PWD (157 projects) and WRD (50 projects) were incomplete as on March 2020 due to paucity of funds.

Many projects which are incomplete pertain to sewerage management, water supply and four laning works.
