1.70 crore gold seized at Dabolim

Customs officials attached to the Dabolim airport seized gold worth about Rs 1.70 crore at in the wee hours of Wednesday.

 The gold weighing 7.124 kgs was found abandoned in the toilet of Qatar Airways flight.According to reports, after passengers alighted, the officials during routine check found a duty-free bag full of gold in a dust bin in the toilet of the flight.Speaking to reporters, Commissioner of Customs K Anpazhakan said the seized gold was found in various forms of jewellery. “We are yet to check the value of the seized gold, but it will be about Rs 1.70 crore,” informed Anpazhakan.“This is the second gold seizure this year. Last week, we had found 2 kgs of gold, worth Rs 55 lakh, abandoned below a seat in a Qatar Airways flight,” Anpazhakan said.“We have also seized foreign currency worth Rs 82 lakh in two different seizures from two passengers from Bhatkal-Karnataka while they were leaving for Doha. On March 24 we seized Rs 31.5 lakh and on April 18 Rs 51.5 lakh,” he informed.
