Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar has said that Government has directed all its efforts to empower the women and instil confidence in them to stand on their feet. Women have the talent in them, which needs to be tapped and guided in the right direction, he added.

Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the 'Mahila Melava-2016’ at Institute Menezes Braganza hall on Saturday. Minister for Art and Culture Dayanand Mandrekar was also present.

Parsekar further said that women are an important element of society and have attained great height in the once male dominated society. The modern society, he said has started recognizing the individual identity of women. He said women aspiration, abilities and qualities and should have the opportunities to develop their faculties.

Mandrekar said that women’s interest and participation in social life is increasing as a result of education and secularisation of social values. He appealed to women to emulate the example of Sudha Murthy, chairperson of Infosys Foundation in India, who he said has contributed immensely in the social field.

Dhanashree Apte, artist and businesswomen from Sangli District delivered the keynote, while Ujwala Tarkar and Asha Gehlot both members of IMB spoke. Earlier Apte presented a Bharatnatyam dance.

Sanjay Harmalkar chairman, IMB welcomed while Jyoti Kunkolienkar, IMB member and actress compered the function. Gorakh Mandrekar, member secretary, IMB proposed the vote of thanks.
