The Crime Branch (CB) sleuths arrested two men and seized unlicensed explosives used for quarrying in a raid carried out early Thursday morning.The explosives were stacked in a Maruti Omni vehicle bearing registration number GA-09-D-4278 at Dharbandora-Savordem Junction. Superintendent of Police (CB) Nidhin Valsan informed that Bhujang alias Bala Khatvkar, aged 32 years, and Talak, 35, were caught red-handed with the explosives.
“They were found carrying illegal explosives, that is, six boxes containing 1200 Gelatin sticks. It weighed 150 kg and six buddles contained 300 electronic detonators,” he revealed.
A First Information Report under section 286 (negligent conduction with respect to explosive substance) read with 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 5 of the Explosives Substance Act has been registered against the accused.
“The accused have confessed that they brought these explosives without valid licenses to use in quarry work. Further investigation is in progress with the CB,” the officer said.
