The office of the All Goa Toddy Tappers’ Association witnessed an uproar over the question of controlling the affairs of the body on Tuesday.
The Margao police made its presence felt at the office to ensure that the meeting of the two factions of the association does not end in a law and order situation.
While one group of members had come to the office to take charge of the account and asset from the President Remy Borges, the rival group told the president not to hand over the account and assets till a decision is taken by the general body.
Heated exchanges ensued between members of the two factions with the Margao police intervening to pacify the members and prevent a law and order situation.
Rival factions of the All Goa Toddy Tapper’s Association had been at loggerheads to exercise control over the Association after the tenure of incumbent President Remy Borges ended in May 2022.
While Remy and his group have contended that they have been continuing in office since the renewal of the association has not been completed, the rival faction has demanded that the committee has no power to continue in office since May last.
After the argument and counter arguments, it was later decided to form a panel comprising of five members from each group to explore the possibility of finding an amicable solution.
Remy told the media that if the 10-member panel cannot find an amicable solution to the problem, the issue will be placed before the general body for a decision.
