MAPUSA
The Mapusa Traders Association has objected to the Mapusa Municipal Council’s decision to hike the pay-parking charges in the market.
Mapusa Traders Association President Shripad Sawant and Secretary Siddhesh Raut submitted a memorandum to the MMC in this connection.
The memorandum reminded the MMC that the traders had supported the MMC to implement the pay-parking system in Mapusa market, to bring discipline in the parking, to make enough space available for public, vendors, suppliers visiting the market.
They stated that the hike in pay-parking charges would impact customers visiting the market and business would suffer.
Claiming that the MMC receives revenue in the form of Sopo, rent and other taxes, the traders said all this depends on footfalls at the market.
When many options are available to consumers to purchase goods from outside the market, they would not turn to the market if the parking charges were high. The MMC should, instead, look into enhancing infrastructural facilities like toilets and lighting, the traders added.
